Frequently Asked Questions

How long will therapy last?

How long your therapy lasts is directly correlated to your unique goals and needs. While the work that is being done in session is important, the work being done outside of our time together is just as impactful on your movement forward in your healing journey.

As a therapist, I will never put an expiration date on your therapy. What I will do is evaluate ways to adjust our therapeutic relationship as your needs and goals improve or change. When the integration of in-session insight and skills becomes a part of your daily life, we can discuss changing and tailoring the frequency and duration of your sessions to best serve you.

For individuals who are in crisis, need immediate support, or who are looking for specific solutions/change, I also utilize single-session interventions and solution-focused principles to help clients get the most out of one session. We look at the most desired outcome for that session, and focus on the here and now, knowing that we may only meet for that one hour. We don’t always need to know what caused a problem, in order to solve it!

Are our teletherapy sessions secure and HIPPA compliant?

Our sessions will take place via Google Meet, which is a HIPPA compliant video conferencing platform. There is no denying that teletherapy is uniquely different from in-person therapy. While we do not meet face-to-face, I still hold creating a safe, productive and healing therapeutic environment as my top priority for my clients, regardless of therapy taking place in an office or from the comfort of your own environment.

Do you have any in-person appointments available?

At this time, I am only available for teletherapy sessions for any Michigan resident. In the future, I am hoping to secure a day to offer a space for in-person appointments.

Do you work with children?

While I do prefer to do in-person sessions with children, I am certified nationally as a Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist and am able to see children ages 6 and up for teletherapy. If you have a child who you feel would benefit from trauma focused therapy, please schedule a consult so that we can discuss more in depth about providing teletherapy to children and parental partnerships/involvement in therapy services.

What’s your availability?

When we meet during our consultation, we will discuss availability and try to find a time/day that works for both of us. While I try to be flexible and considerate when scheduling clients, I also am mindful and purposeful with my own time to ensure I am holding true to my work-life balance. With teletherapy, a healing environment can still be created wherever you find comfort and safety from. Sometimes this is from the comfort of your own home, front porch, backyard, a nearby park, your office or car on your lunch break, etc. This provides unique accessibility and flexibility with scheduling therapy into your busy life.

What insurances are you paneled with?

I am exclusively providing services for a private pay fee or as an out-of network provider. I can provide proof of treatment for those who do have insurance or an HSA, and are in need of reimbursement from an insurance provider.

My private pay fee for an individual talk therapy session is $120 for 50 minutes. The fee will be adjusted if session duration changes. If you have more questions, please send an email to abrowne@travelinglightwellness.com.

As a provider, I am also partnered with Open Path to provide a reduced rate to individuals who meet qualifications. For more information, refer to the Open Path Collective website.

Do you always incorporate movement/yoga into your sessions?

No, and I will never incorporate it without the request and agreement of the client. Therapy is individualized and unique to suit the needs of each client. One of the key factors in any therapy being deemed successful is having established trust, rapport and safety between the therapist and client. That is always my top priority in helping others on their healing journey. The client is the driver, and I am just merely the passenger. You decide the route we take, and while I may offer alternative routes and helpful short-cuts along the way, you are in control of your own destination and the roads you take to get there.

How does it work virtually when incorporating movement/yoga?

Great and valid question! The exact same way that it works for any other type of teletherapy. If you choose to take a more structured mind+body approach into your therapy, we will spend dedicated time discussing all of the logistics such as, ensuring you have a safe and private space to move freely, any physical ailments or limitations we need to consider, your own mat/blanket/beach towel if you choose (bare feet on mother nature’s floor is welcomed and even encouraged), what type of poses and/or movement needs to happen prior to talk therapy and why, how long we will practice, etc.
